"Homes constructed before the mid-1980s usually require an upgrade of their electrical panel since it typically utilizes 100-amp service. And this is no longer sufficient to meet the power demands of today's modern appliances, while those built afterward are equipped with 150-amp service. Even some houses from the 1980s may need a replacement due to their inadequate source of electricity. Today's standard is 200 amps or higher to handle all of the modern technology found in homes. So if you have an older home or one with limited amperage capacity, you must upgrade your electrical panel as soon as possible. Below are other signs that indicate that your home’s electrical panel needs an upgrade:
If any of the above signs apply to your home, then it's clear that you need to upgrade your electrical panel as soon as possible. Fortunately, a panel electrical upgrade is generally relatively quick and simple, so don't hesitate to contact an experienced electrician today. With their help, you can rest assured that your home will be safe and up-to-date for many years."
Don't stress, we take care of EVERYTHING and keep you in the loop every step of the way!
We will submit a permit application for your service upgrade and/or panel replacement, Depending on your location (City of St John's, Mount Pearl, Paradise, or CBS EXT.), this process could take 3-4 days for approval.
Once Permits are approved, We then contact Newfoundland Power to arrange a date for a 'Disconnect/Reconnect". This step can normally be done the same day permits are obtained. SBG Electrical has the authority to disconnect your power but the reconnection MUST be done by the utility company, which is why we pre schedule this with them. Once a date has been determined, one of our friendly staff will reach out to you to let you know the date.
Our team are usually on site by 8AM, After a friendly hello and quick walk around they will begin work, In most situations your power will be disconnected shortly after our arrival, so to avoid delays we do ask to make sure your awake and ready for your day.
When our team starts, they're dedicated. Our main focus is to get your power restored as effciently and professionally as possible. Once our work is completed, we call it in to the inspector assigned who will come by, approve and authorize NL Power to come back and reconnect.
We like to allow for your power outage for the entire day (until 5pm) but in most cases, reconnection is completed by 2-3pm.
Backup generators are available to keep you comfortable throughout this day process apon request.
If no upgrade was required, this is where the job ends, site is tidied up, invoices are sent, payments are made and certificates of inspections are submitted. Happy Customer, Happy Contractor :)
If Upgrades are required, This will take place in the coming days after the upgrade is completed and will be pre discussed with the customer. Don't stress, our team has become very good at upgrading your home without the big mess! Minor drywall repairs may be required.
