There are many different types, sizes and styles of home generation but for the purpose of this we will talk about the most common, budget friendly set up that we install most frequently.
A transfer panel holds the breakers you want to use during a power outage, like your fridge, or maybe a well pump. These items work under normal operations (With Grid power) and also work under emergency operations (With Generator power) . A small transfer panel is neatly mounted beside existing panel and some wires are taken from home panel and put into the transfer panel. Don't worry we always simulate a power outage and walkthru with our clients and discuss/turn on what they would like to have power during a power outage prior to this step!
Essentially a transfer panel does just that, transfers. It transfers power from one source "Grid Power" to "Generator Power" During a power outage all you would do is plug your generator into the receptacle that we install outside and flick a breaker on the transfer panel. Once completed all the items would power back up leaving your home safe, warm and comfortable.
Once the grid power comes back on you simply un plug the generator and turn the breaker in the transfer panel in the other direction.
These set ups are very safe and extremely easy to use, We've even had clients say they're "dummy Proof". So If your in the market for comfort, safety and reliability in preparation for our next power outage give us a call. We welcome any and all questions that may not be answered here.

For most installs a 120v/240v 30A Inlet Generator plug (See Picture) is mounted outside your home and coming from the generator transfer panel.
This plug can be mounted anywhere outside or in a generator "hut" but ideally is mounted on the exterior side of your panel wall.
We can include a generator suited for your needs into the installation price or we can use a generator that you already have (If suitable).
Want to buy your own but don't know what generator to buy? Don't worry were here to help.
We do a load test of your emergency power setup and ensure you get a large enough generator for your needs. Depending on what you want on during a power outage and how much power it uses will corraspond to what size generator you need.
Many of our clients already have generator large enough and they didn't even realize it, especially if you're a camper and already own a generator for that. The first thing to look for is a 30A 120/240 Receptacle on the front of your generator, if you have that, you're already half way to home generation.
Nobody wants to throw away food. Fridges and freezers are included in almost every install we do.
Lets face it, being in the dark sucks! Sit back and enjoy your homes lighting a little more than normal during the next power outage.
